How to Extend the Life of your Car With Oil Changes

Want to extend the life of your car? CHANGE THE OIL! Here's a great example: I had a 1985 Buick Skylark that I bought in 1986 when my kids were still small and I needed (horrors) a four-door car. When I sold it in 1997, it had 290,000 miles on it and still ran strong. No smoke, no oil loss, no clatter, nothing but smooth running! Why? Because I changed the oil and filter every 3 months or 3,000 miles.

As a car runs, the combustion process contaminates the oil with metal particles, water, acids and environmental dirt. The filter will remove only some of the particulate contamination, but won't touch the acids and water. Only a full oil change will get rid of that engine-eating gunk.

Changing oil isn't hard, it doesn't require special tools or know-how, you just have to do it. I taught my 16-year old daughter how to change her own oil, and if Miss Priss can do it, ANYONE can do it!
