How to Reprogram Keyless Entry Remotes for 1990-1997 XJ6 Jaguar Models

If you’ve replaced the batteries in your keyless entry remote and need to reprogram it, follow the steps below according to your Jaguar XJ6 model year. These procedures apply only to original Jaguar factory-installed alarm systems. If these steps do not work, you will need to take your car and remote to a Jaguar dealer for programming via their diagnostic equipment.

1990-1992 XJ6 Models

  1. Record the radio security code (if applicable).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait a few minutes.
  3. Reconnect the negative battery terminal – you should hear a beeping sound.
  4. Press each transmitter button until you hear a total of 5 confirmation beeps.
  5. Test the remote operation.
  6. Re-enter the radio code (if necessary) and reset the clock.

1993-1994 XJ6 Models

  1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  2. Turn the security switch OFF (located in the center console).
  3. Turn the ignition key OFF.
  4. Turn the security switch ON.
  5. Cycle the security system switch ON/OFF rapidly 4 times within 5 seconds.
  6. Press each remote transmitter button until you hear a total of 5 confirmation beeps.

1995-1997 XJ6 Models

  1. Open the trunk lid.
  2. Open the driver’s door.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON (do not start the engine).
  4. Move the valet switch (located in the center console) back and forth 5 times. A single chirp and a headlamp flash indicate the Security Locking Control Module has entered learning mode.
  5. Press the larger lock/alarm button on the first remote. A tone will confirm the transmitter has been accepted. This remote will be assigned to position 1 of the seat/steering/mirror memory.
  6. Move the valet switch once. Two short chirps indicate the system is ready to accept a second transmitter.
  7. Press the larger lock/alarm button on the second transmitter. Two tones confirm the remote has been accepted.
  8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for up to a total of 5 remotes. Each additional transmitter will be assigned a memory position. Even if you have fewer than 5 remotes, complete 5 cycles using the last remote to ensure proper programming.
  9. Turn off the ignition, close all doors and the trunk.
  10. Test remote operation and verify seat/steering/mirror memory functions.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully reprogram your keyless entry remotes. If any issues arise, consult a Jaguar dealer for assistance.
